Maternally Assisted Cesarean Section

A maternally assisted caesarean section allows mothers to take an active role in their baby’s birth, gently guiding their newborn into the world for an immediate and deeply personal skin-to-skin connection under safe medical supervision.

A more connected way to welcome your baby

Maternal Assisted Cesareans have evolved to enable women to assist in the birth of their baby during an elective cesarean section. Called "assisted cesarean", the procedure allows the mother to be the first to hold her child, with her hands guided to the baby by medical staff.

In the maternal-assisted method, the mother’s hands are the first to touch her baby and she then places the newborn on her chest for immediate skin-to-skin bonding. The baby is able to remain in this position if both mother and baby are well.

This procedure is performed under controlled medical supervision to provide a more empowering, connected, and positive birth experience for mothers.

Like all cesarean births, maternal-assisted procedures are very controlled, with the primary focus being on the safety of both mother and child, and infection control.
